Katherine Dunham’s Global Travel, 1947-60 (Interactive Space-Time Mapping)
Antonio Jimenez Mavillard created this interactive space-time globe to visualize the Everyday Itinerary dataset manually curated by Harmony Bench and Kate Elswit. Spatializing this data while maintaining chronology allows us to see the architecture of Dunham’s global travels, including the locations to which Dunham continuously returned. Time is represented as elevation, with 1947 closest to the earth rising to 1960 farthest away.
