Multidirectional Flows between Personnel, Repertory Inspiration, and Places Visited by Katherine Dunham, 1937-62

This dependency tripartite graph makes visible the multidirectional relationships between Dunham’s diasporic imagination and the many places she visited, as well as how the performers who joined her along the way contributed their culturally specific embodied knowledge to the creation of her repertory. Bubbles are organized chronologically to represent Dunham’s travels (left column), the places that inspired her repertory (middle column), and the passports that her dancers, drummers, and singers carried (right column).
